Featured Guest: Rick McGuire Head Track & Field Coach – University of Missouri
As Dr. Rick McGuire embarks on his 24th season as the head track and field coach at the University of Missouri, he can look back on the first two decades of his tenure with great pride and satisfaction, as certainly his Tigers have established an exceptional record of success in the athletic arena, in the classroom and, most importantly, in their lives beyond the University. Over the years, Missouri track and field athletes have certainly done more than their fair share of winning and achieving. There have been 114 All-Americans, 96 Conference Champions, 37 U.S. Olympic Trials qualifiers, 23 U.S.A. National Track and Field Team members, seven NCAA Champions, eight NCAA Regional Champions, threeNCAA collegiate record holders, and two conference Athletes of the Year, an Olympic Silver Medalist, three Olympians earning four team births, four World Championship Gold and Silver medalists and three PanAmerican Games Gold medalists. Coach McGuire is not only known around the track, he is a highly regarded professor in the classroom as well. Holding his Ph.D. in Sport Psychology from the University of Virginia, Dr. McGuire is a member of the faculty in the Department of Educational, School and Counseling Psychology in the University of Missouri's College of Education. He is one of only a few NCAA Division I coaches who regularly teach both a graduate and undergraduate course load

Wade Caselman – Southeast of Saline
As the head cross country coach, Wade has led his Trojans to 2nd (2006) and 3rd (2005) place finish in at
state XC. He was named the 2005 3A Coach of the Year. Wade will speak on Middle School distance.

As throws coach at SMNW, Bonnie has guided many athletes to All League and All State awards. Bonnie will present on the Discus.

Travis Havenstein – Riley County MS
Currently the head coach at Riley County MS, Travis
was named KCCTFCA Assistant Sprint coach of the
year in 2005. He has coached 14 state medalists in his
career and will speak on sprints.

John Oshel – Shawnee Heights
Over the past 4 years, 27 of his throwers have qualified
for the state meet, including 3 time Champ Ian Trimble.

Nathan Hiebert – Hillsboro
Coach Hiebert has coached the high jumpers at Hillsboro
HS and MS and was named the 2007 Asst. Jumps Coach
of the year. He recently helped to guide a young lady to
four consecutive 3A high jump championships.

Rick Brading – Seaman HS
A recent XC COY, Rick has led the Seaman girls XC
teams to multiple state placings. He will speak on 1600M
and 3200M training.
Dennis Boldt - Hillsboro
Dennis has been the head coach at Hillsboro for 18
years. His boys and girls have won 5 state
championships during that time. He will speak on the
relay events.

Lindall Cox – Holcomb HS
The 2001 XC COY, Lindall has established a successful
distance program at Holcomb. He will speak on 800M
training.

Phil Katzenmeier – Eudora HS
Phil has made a career of developing great high school
hurdlers. He has coached numerous school record
holders and state qualifiers. Most recently, he has
guided a 3 time hurdle champ. Phil will speak on the
300 meter hurdles.

Joel Kuchera – Quinter HS
Joel has guided Quinter to one of the elite 1A programs
in the state. He will speak about how to run off a meet.
Garry Kraushaar – Frankfort HS
An assistant COY this year, Garry has guided many state
placers over the years including the 2007 2A state boys
javelin champ. Garry will speak about finding and
correcting throwing errors and MS throws.

Randy Wells – Emporia HS
Under Coach Wells’ tenure, Emporia has become a
Centennial League and State contender. He will speak
on core and hamstring strength training.
Anna Krone – Ft. Riley MS
Anna most recently spent her time coaching jumpers at
Bucklin HS. She guided one athlete to the 1A state
record and a state championship in the Triple Jump.
Anna will speak about the Long and Triple Jumps.

Angie Spielman – Baldwin MS
Angie’s experience is wide ranging from League MS
champs to National AAU qualifiers in the Jumps. Angie
will present on Middle School LJ and TJ.

Brad Nicks – Shawnee Heights HS
As the head coach at Shawnee Heights, Brad has been
successful in building his program’s numbers and
placing many athletes at the state meet. His 2007 boy’s
squad won the 5A state championship. Coach Nicks will
speak on 400m training and team building.

Darin Schmitz – Neosho CCC
Coach Schmitz is entering his 4 th year at the helm of
NCCC. He has produced 47 All-Americans in his time
at NCCC. He will speak on the Shot Put.

Dick Switzer – Concordia HS
Coach Switzer has had a great career at Concordia HS
coaching the hurdlers. In that time he has guided 13
state champions. In 2007 his girls swept the top three
places at the state meet in the 100m hurdles. Dick will
speak about 100/110 Hurdle Training.
Skip Bennet – Lawrence SW JH
Coach Bennet has built a successful and inclusive
program at Lawrence Southwest JH. He will present on
JH/MS Team organization.

Scott Powell - Garden City
Coach Powell is currently the pole vault coach for
Garden City High School, whose varsity team has had
21 state contenders since 2000, 6 in the top three at state,
two state champions, and two nationally ranked collegiate
former vaulters.
